Through the implementation of this project, we aim to provide young people with fewer opportunities with an experience that goes beyond a traditional trip and becomes a powerful tool for non-formal learning, personal development and social inclusion. From a youth work perspective, the project is designed as a response to the concrete needs of young people coming from small towns and rural areas, where opportunities for international experiences, participation in European programmes and the development of key competences are often limited. The main objective of the project is to empower young people through experiential learning in an international environment, using DiscoverEU mobility as a platform for developing the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need for active participation in society. By travelling through Denmark, Sweden and Finland – countries that are leaders in sustainability, green policies and innovative social solutions – young people learn what a sustainable Europe looks like in practice and how European values can be lived in everyday life. From the youth work perspective, the project has several clearly defined objectives. First and foremost, we aim to increase the participation of young people with fewer opportunities in European programmes, reduce feelings of exclusion and create conditions in which young people feel equal to their peers from more urban and privileged backgrounds. The project provides a safe and supportive environment in which participants can develop self-confidence, independence and a sense of belonging to the European community. Another important objective is the development of key competences through non-formal learning. Through travel planning, navigating unfamiliar environments, teamwork and reflection, young people will develop digital, communication, intercultural and social skills. Special emphasis is placed on understanding sustainability, green policies, alternative modes of transport and responsible environmental behaviour, thereby directly contributing to the priorities of the Erasmus+ Programme and addressing current societal challenges. The project also aims to encourage critical thinking and active citizenship. Young people are not passive observers; through guided activities, discussions and tasks, they analyse examples of good practice from Scandinavian countries and reflect on how similar models can be adapted and applied in their local communities. In this way, they are encouraged to recognise their own role in creating more sustainable and inclusive societies. Finally, one of the key objectives of the project is to create a multiplier effect in youth work. Participants become ambassadors of the DiscoverEU and Erasmus+ programmes, sharing their experiences with peers, schools and local communities. In this way, the project does not end with the return from the journey, but continues through dissemination activities, further involvement of young people in EU programmes and the strengthening of a culture of participation in youth work. Through this project, we aim to demonstrate that youth work can serve as a bridge between young people with fewer opportunities and a Europe that often seems abstract and distant to them – transforming it into a real, accessible and inspiring experience that changes perspectives and opens new life opportunities.
