The project aims to strengthen branch governance, sustainability and local emergency preparedness by equipping staff and volunteers with practical skills in emergency preparedness and disaster risk management, development planning, community engagement, accountability and knowledge transfer. It will build internal capacity to support structured branch development and ensure consistent, high-quality humanitarian action nationwide.
The Irish Red Cross applied for this project to strengthen its volunteer-led branch network. While branches have strong community relationships, governance clarity, sustainability planning and local emergency preparedness systems require further development. European peer learning will help translate branch capacity assessments into practical, structured improvements that strengthen long-term community resilience.
