Objectives

We want to support teenagers from Ireland and Turkey in reflecting on food consumption, waste, and healthy living in a practical and meaningful way. Young people today grow up between traditional values of respecting food and resources and a fast-paced culture of overconsumption that affects both the environment and personal wellbeing. Our objective is to help them understand this tension through lived experience rather than theory. Using non-formal education methods, we seek to raise awareness of how everyday choices related to food and consumption shape environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and both mental and physical health. Traditional practices, local food cultures, and current challenges will be approached as shared learning themes, allowing participants to strengthen critical thinking, intercultural understanding, and practical awareness that can be carried into daily life. From a youth work perspective, our project focuses on empowerment and participation. Teenagers are involved as active learners and co-creators, encouraged to take responsibility, share experiences, and turn learning into small actions within their families, schools, and communities. The overall goal is to strengthen young people’s sense of agency and show that sustainable living starts with everyday choices close to home.
