The idea of Bridging the Gap mobility exchange evolved from our small scale partnership project looking at Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) https://www.undp.org/sustainable-development-goals and how to develop skills to manage them. The youth exchange will support young people exchange ideas, learn from each other, provide experiential learning as well as build confidence in themselves, foster a sense of fun while exploring difficult themes as reflected in the SDGs. The UN SDGs are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and prosperity. The 17 SDGs are integrated—they recognise that action in one area will affect outcomes in others, and that development must balance social, economic and environmental sustainability. Through the planned activities devised in January 2026, and combining core elements of Youthpass - the mobility exchange places learning at the centre of the agenda, identify objectives from young participants and encourage reflective practice with participants. This is supported by the youth workers from the City of Helsinki Youth Services and Bradóg Youth Service. The competences developed by young participants will inform them of their learning skills developed through the mobility exchange, inform their peers as well as youth workers, museum and heritage educators. Youth Work Practice: The mobility exchange will combine Youthpass, non-formal learning, youth participation, experiential learning, intercultural dialogue and reflection as well as the learnings from previous mobility exchanges managed by Bradog Youth Service. The mobility exchange will address young people's needs, combine a number of approaches including: Youthpass, non-formal learning, youth participation, experiential learning, intercultural dialogue and reflection as well as the learnings from previous youth exchanges organised by Bradóg Youth Service. As Bradóg and City of Helsinki Youth Services work with young people with fewer opportunities, they are unlikely to travel as much as their peers, if at all. This exchange will allow two groups of 8 young people to go on an experiential journey of self-discovery, intercultural dialogue and exchange. The work of Bradóg and City of Helsinki Youth services comes with many challenges as the service attendees come from underserved communities with fewer opportunities, socio-economic challenges, including low social and cultural capital. Young people therefore have fewer opportunities and are at risk of future unemployment, low education achievement, etc. As a result, they are unlikely to see anything outside their own immediate surroundings, which are often affected by drug and alcohol misuse, anti-social behaviour and other issues. Participating in the youth exchange will broaden their horizons and promote self-belief. The mobility exchange places young people’s well-being, learning and new experiences at the centre of the agenda. We will encourage reflective practice with young participants. This is supported by the youth workers from the City of Helsinki Youth Services and Bradóg Youth Service. The mobility youth exchange will provide young people the following: 1. New and expanded learning opportunities 2. Experiential learning from peers and experienced youth workers 3. Intercultural learning and experiences, meeting new people 4. Self-assurance and confidence in visiting cultural heritage sites both locality and internationally 5. Gain independence and learn to think creatively and critically, communicate and give feedback in a constructive way The objectives of the mobility exchange are: 1. Provide opportunities to travel to other EU cities/countries 2. Give young people new experiences in other cities/countries 3. Meet peers from another EU country and share experiences 4. Support young people to develop independence and think ‘outside the box’ - something that may not be available to young people in their current circumstances The planned Youth Mobility Exchange will support the following: • Personal resilience • Community safety • Connect participants to Europe and foster intercultural dialogue • Break down prejudices and stereotypes • Develop skills, competences and attitudes of young people • Raise awareness about socially, economically and politically relevant topics
