Through this project, we aim to support young people with fewer opportunities from rural County Cavan and Monaghan to build confidence, independence, and a stronger sense of belonging through supported international travel. Many participants experience barriers linked to rural isolation, economic disadvantage, or limited access to travel and cultural exchange, and for some this will be their first experience travelling outside Ireland. The project uses DiscoverEU as a youth work tool, allowing young people to learn through real-life experience rather than formal learning environments. Participants will be actively involved in planning and shaping their journey, developing practical skills such as decision-making, teamwork, problem-solving, budgeting, and navigating unfamiliar environments while being supported through a structured youth work approach. Exposure to different cultures and social environments will help broaden perspectives, strengthen European awareness, and support personal development. The project aims to create a safe and inclusive space where young people can challenge themselves, build resilience, and return with increased confidence and motivation to engage more fully in their communities.
