Objectives

“Ecovillaggi in Cammino” is a project that brings together inclusive international mobility, environmental education, and non-formal learning, with the aim of offering five 18-year-old young people with fewer opportunities a concrete, safe, and transformative experience. Through a 21-day journey across France, Spain, and Portugal, participants will live and collaborate in different communities and ecovillages, taking part in daily activities and hands-on workshops (permaculture, land care, sustainable resource management, community life and organization). At the same time, they will document the journey with materials that will feed into a documentary film and a practical toolkit of replicable good practices. The project was created to respond to very concrete needs: many young people with fewer opportunities have limited access to international mobility and to educational experiences outside the school context; at the same time, they have few chances to practically explore models of sustainability and community participation. “Ecovillaggi in Cammino” aims to bridge both gaps: opening up Europe to those who start with fewer opportunities and turning the trip into a structured learning pathway, with adequate support, safety measures, and measurable outcomes. The project objectives are: -To make mobility truly accessible to young people with fewer opportunities, offering a first European trip with preparation, accompaniment, and safeguarding measures, to ensure equal opportunities compared to their peers. -To develop life skills and social skills: autonomy, time management, collaboration, communication, problem solving, adaptation to new contexts, and the ability to be part of a group in a constructive way. -To strengthen environmental learning through practice, moving from theory to experience: everyday sustainable practices, impact reduction, resource management, and observing and testing concrete solutions in the host communities. -To foster inclusion and participation, helping young people feel recognized and able to contribute: experimenting with roles, responsibilities, and moments of dialogue, strengthening confidence in their voice and abilities. -To promote interculturality and a sense of European belonging, through exchange with people and communities in the countries visited, developing open-mindedness and respect for differences. -To make the impact visible and amplify it through tangible outputs and moments: a documentary film, a toolkit, and a public dissemination event, so that what is learned can be shared and reused by other young people and local organizations. In short, we want participants to return with greater confidence, more autonomy, and recognizable skills, as well as practical tools to tell and transfer the experience within their own context. The project does not end with the trip: thanks to the documentary film, toolkit, and dissemination activities, the experience becomes a starting point for generating impact in the local area and for showing other young people with fewer opportunities that European mobility can be accessible, educational, and capable of producing real change.
