By implementing the project Outdoor Culture, we aim to strengthen youth work practice by expanding the methodological competences of youth workers and improving the quality of outdoor-based youth activities. The project responds to the need for innovative, engaging and practice-oriented approaches that support young people’s participation, creativity and learning outside traditional settings. From a youth work practice perspective, one key objective is to enable youth workers to design outdoor activities that go beyond physical or recreational aspects. The project supports youth workers in integrating creativity, arts and culture into outdoor youth work, allowing young people to express themselves, reflect on experiences and engage with nature in meaningful ways. Another objective is to enhance youth workers’ ability to facilitate inclusive and participatory learning processes. Through hands-on experience and peer learning, youth workers develop skills in group facilitation, reflection, communication and adapting activities to diverse groups of young people with different needs and backgrounds. The project also aims to strengthen the use of innovative learning and teaching approaches in youth work practice. By applying non-formal and experiential learning methods in outdoor environments, youth workers gain practical tools to support learning processes that are learner-centred, flexible and relevant to young people’s realities. In addition, Outdoor Culture seeks to support youth workers in addressing environmental awareness and sustainability within their daily practice. The project provides concrete examples of how environmental and climate-related topics can be explored in an accessible, hands-on and youth-friendly way through outdoor activities. At a broader level, the project aims to contribute to the continuous development of youth work by strengthening cooperation between organisations, encouraging reflection on practice and supporting the transfer of learning outcomes into local youth work activities. Overall, the project empowers youth workers to deliver high-quality, creative and future-oriented youth work that responds to the needs and interests of young people.
