“The Power of Connection: Foundations in Nonviolent Communication” appeared from a shared realisation among 5 European partner organisations: L'école des Valeurs (Luxemburg), ARDOR (Romania), Association Sociocultural Almar (Spain), Bubburriga Association (Italy) and WSM (Poland), that nonviolent communication is one of the most transformative skills young people can develop, yet it remains underrepresented in formal education. Recognising that empowering our youth workers with NVC skills could profoundly impact the young people they work with, we began a needs analysis assessment. Based on it, we decided that the aim of our project is to help our youth workers understand non-violent communication on a deeper level, and improve that competence so much that they effectively teach and support youth, both during activities as well as in their everyday lives. Our SMART objectives, about to be achieved in the 10 months of the project, are: 1. To teach the 25 youth workers in depth about the 4 components of non-violent communication (observation, feelings, needs and requests) and effective techniques through which young people can express the needs behind their strategies non-violently. 2. To equip the 25 participants with the ability to teach young people at least 3 essential skills that improve interpersonal relationships and overall well being: emotional regulation, conflict resolution and honest self expression. 3. To teach the 25 participants minimum 4 non-formal methods revolving around NVC that can help the local youth groups become more empathetic, nonjudgmental and respectful with the others around them, therefore increasing their sense of belonging in the community.
