Objectives

The youth exchange “Through the Lens” brings together 27 young people from Latvia, Lithuania, and Türkiye to explore the power of digital storytelling as a tool for self-expression, intercultural dialogue, and social change. Taking place in Limbažu pagasts, Latvia, the project responds to a common challenge among European youth: although over 90% of young people in these countries use social media daily, much of this activity remains passive consumption, leading to risks such as misinformation, digital overload, and weakened civic participation. By engaging participants in hands-on media creation, the project seeks to shift young people from passive consumers into active content creators who can use digital platforms responsibly and meaningfully. Through workshops, creative labs, and group projects, participants will develop skills in storytelling, film production, media literacy, and digital ethics, while reflecting critically on their own media habits. From a youth work perspective, the project’s objectives are: 1. To empower young people to express their ideas and concerns through creative digital media. 2. To foster critical media literacy, enabling participants to analyse online content, recognise bias, and challenge misinformation. 3. To promote responsible digital citizenship, encouraging ethical online behaviour, inclusion, and respect for human rights. 4. To strengthen intercultural dialogue by working in international teams and sharing diverse perspectives through stories. 5. To enhance transversal skills such as teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and creativity, increasing participants’ confidence and employability.
