Objectives

The main aim of this project is to empower Deaf and hard-of-hearing young people aged 13–21 from the Baltic region by giving them a safe, inclusive and creative space to build self-confidence, express themselves and feel proud of their Deaf identity and culture. Through non-formal education methods, the project supports personal development, social inclusion and active participation of youth with fewer opportunities. By organising a 5-day Youth Exchange, we aim to educate young participants about Deaf culture using Visual Vernacular (VV), theatrical tools, body movement, video filming and social media as creative learning methods. The project is based on learning by doing and peer learning, which are key principles of youth work practice. Our specific objectives include: - To help Deaf youth overcome shyness regarding their body language and signs. Through VV, participants will transition from feeling hesitant to feeling like artists, building lasting self-esteem and pride in the Deaf community. - New Digital Skills: We want to teach participants how to film and edit high-quality videos on their phones. This moves them from just watching videos to creating them. These skills will help them in their future jobs and in sharing their ideas online. - Even though Latvia and Lithuania are neighbors, Deaf youth from both countries don't often meet. We want to build a Baltic network where they can make friends, share their experiences, and realize they are part of a bigger European family. - We will make a simple guide (a poster and a Telegram group) so that the skills they learn aren't forgotten. This is a practical "toolbox" they can use at home to keep practicing. - By performing in their home towns after the project, the youth become leaders. - Introducing history of VV and the legacy of Bernard Bragg and showing how this art form has evolved into a powerful contemporary tool. - To develop physical storytelling techniques, including role-shifting and cinematic effects cinematic effects such as zooms and slow motion. Participants will master stage presence and space management. - To transform participants into leaders who will perform in their hometowns after the project. Tangible Results: To produce at least 9 artistic VV videos, at least 6 performances and a "VV Toolkit" poster, ensuring the skills and methods are preserved and shared via a dedicated Telegram group for long-term community benefit.
