Objectives

We implement the “Off The Grid” project over a 7-month period (01/06/2026–31/12/2026) to respond to a clear need we observe in youth work practice: supporting young people in developing a more conscious and healthier relationship with social media and digital habits, which strongly affect self-esteem, emotional well-being and face-to-face relationships. The core activity is a Youth Exchange in Latvia (Bauska) taking place from 18/08/2026 to 23/08/2026, involving 24 young participants aged 15–18 and 5 group leaders from four national groups, with 12 participants identified as young people with fewer opportunities. From a youth work practice perspective, our objective is not only to “raise awareness”, but to create concrete, measurable learning and behavioural outcomes. During the mobility, young people will reflect in a safe and inclusive non-formal learning environment on how social media influences their daily lives, emotions and relationships, while practising practical digital well-being tools and realistic offline alternatives. By the end of the project, each participant will develop a personal digital well-being action plan to continue implementing after the exchange, and we expect at least 80% of participants to be able to identify concrete changes in their digital behaviour and apply at least two practical self-management strategies in their everyday lives. At the same time, the project strengthens participation and peer learning, as learning happens in an intercultural group where young people exchange experiences, compare realities across countries and build a shared understanding of healthier digital habits. After the mobility, participants will implement local follow-up activities in their schools or youth centres to share practical tools and experiences, aiming to reach at least 60–100 young people across partner communities. In this way, the project develops young people’s competences while reinforcing youth work practice by turning the exchange outcomes into transferable impact at community level
