Working with young people with disabilities, especially those with intellectual and mental health disabilities, is complex and requires an individualised approach, professional knowledge, and continuous development of youth workers’ competences. Cerību spārni Association and Panevėžio Socialinių Pokyčių Centras are organisations with long-standing experience in working with children, young people and adults with disabilities, providing social rehabilitation, day-care, employment support and social inclusion services, as well as actively engaging in public awareness-raising and social entrepreneurship. The international exchange of experience planned within the Erasmus+ youth workers’ mobility project, including two study visits, will provide an opportunity to gain in-depth insight into partner organisations’ working methods, service delivery models and practical approaches to supporting young people with disabilities and promoting their employment. The project aims to foster youth workers’ professional growth and the development of a wide range of competences, while at the same time strengthening employment opportunities for young people with disabilities through the exchange of organisational experience in employment support and work-based learning approaches. The international exchange of experience will enable both organisations not only to gain new ideas, but also to critically reflect on their daily practice, improve existing services and introduce proven solutions in the fields of social inclusion and employment of young people with disabilities. The knowledge and skills acquired will be used to enhance service quality, strengthen individualised support for young people and promote their autonomy and active participation in society. At the same time, the project will serve as a basis for building long-term cooperation between the Latvian and Lithuanian organisations, fostering stable partnership, regular exchange of practices and the development of joint initiatives beyond the project duration. Such cooperation will create favourable conditions for future joint projects at European level and for the sustainable development of youth work and social inclusion services. The objectives and planned activities of the project directly correspond to the Erasmus+ priority “Inclusion and Diversity”, as the mobility activities are designed to strengthen the skills and competences of professionals who work daily with young people with disabilities, thereby improving these young people’s opportunities to live meaningful, independent and socially included lives.
