Objectives

Implementing the project "The NFE Lab: Designing the Future of Youth Participation" aims to respond to a clear need among youth workers, youth leaders, and active young people for stronger competences in non-formal education (NFE), youth participation, and practical educational method design. While many in the sector are motivated to support civic engagement, they often lack the practical tools, confidence, and hands-on experience to design meaningful learning activities that actively involve young people in decision-making. What the Project Seeks to Achieve The core achievement of this project is to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application by creating a "learning-by-doing" environment. We want to transform participants from learners into creators and facilitators who can co-create and test their own educational methods in real-time. Ultimately, the project seeks to move youth participation from passive involvement to active co-creation and leadership, thereby strengthening the overall quality and innovation of the European youth work ecosystem. Project Objectives from a Youth Work Practice Perspective The main objectives of the project are structured to directly enhance daily youth work practice: • Strengthen competences in NFE and experiential learning: Providing youth workers with a deep understanding of NFE principles and values that they can apply in their daily work. • Improve the ability to design, test, and evaluate educational methods: Moving beyond existing manuals to empower youth workers to create original, inclusive, and impactful learning activities tailored to their specific target groups. • Increase practical skills in youth participation and civic engagement: Equipping practitioners with the tools needed to support young people’s voices and help them influence community life. • Support international teamwork and communication: Developing the ability to collaborate effectively in intercultural environments, which is essential for European-level youth work. • Enhance reflective practice and impact assessment: Helping youth workers develop stronger skills in measuring the impact of their activities to ensure continuous improvement of their programs. • Empower local application: Ensuring that participants are ready to apply these newly developed methods and approaches in their local youth centers and organizations immediately after the training. These objectives are closely aligned with the European Training Strategy (ETS) Competence Framework, specifically targeting areas such as facilitating learning, designing programs, and being civically engaged. By achieving these goals, the project ensures that youth work remains responsive, innovative, and grounded in high-quality non-formal learning standards.
