Objectives

In many youth work settings, violence does not appear as a declared topic but becomes visible indirectly through emotional escalation, withdrawal, silence, aggression, conflict or partial disclosures. Youth workers must respond in real time, often without supervision, clear procedures or the possibility to pause the situation. The project addresses this concrete professional reality. The project aims to strengthen youth workers’ capacity to support young people affected by violence or unsafe relationships in a responsible and ethically grounded way, particularly in situations requiring immediate action within ongoing youth work. In this context, the project seeks to: enable youth workers to better identify situations involving violence, distress or unsafe dynamics within ongoing group processes; develop concrete response practices when young people disclose harm or show signs of distress, including how to communicate, when to respond privately or in the group, how to avoid exposure, and how to support young people’s agency without shifting responsibility onto them; strengthen youth workers’ clarity about their professional role, limits and responsibility when supporting young people affected by violence; increase youth workers’ ability to act with ethical consistency and confidence in real-time situations, so that youth work spaces remain safe, trustworthy and inclusive; ensure that clarified approaches are consciously applied and adapted within participants’ own social and organisational contexts through a structured local practice phase and reflection on real facilitation experiences.
