Objectives

The project aims to strengthen Lexema’s capacity to host mobilities in a more eco-responsible way, reducing environmental impact in a high-volume context. It also aims to improve the quality and direction of participant activities by promoting authentic Maltese heritage through low-impact options and stronger cooperation with local stakeholders. Finally, it aims to improve quality assurance by making improvements measurable and repeatable.

Background

Lexema hosts thousands of European participants every year in Malta. In a context of over-tourism, waste and coastal pressure, hosting must become more eco-responsible. We apply to try to upgrade our model from logistics-only to a consistent non-formal learning pathway that shapes behaviours and tourism choices, promotes the “real Malta” and supports local eco-guides and heritage actors.
