Objectives

The main objectives are increased knowledge, skills, and confidence in teaching adults with PMLD as well as building resilience in our work force. Teaching adults with PMLD is not only a complex task but can also cause emotional and psychological strain on the staff members. The job shadowing will allow the staff members to exchange experiences and encounter new approaches, strategies, tools, materials and environmental factors to improve their teaching practice and psychological resilience.

Background

Teaching adults with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD) is a particularly challenging and complex task because difficulties in multiple areas of functioning (cognitive, communicative, motoric) need to be taken into consideration at once. The project allows us to foster staff members' knowledge and skills in teaching adults with PMLD by providing job shadowing opportunities with their European colleagues. These experiences foster exchange, learning, innovation and collaboration.
