Objectives

With this project we want to give young people from Amsterdam Southeast (Vivell) and Lisbon (Gerador) the opportunity tobroaden their horizons and to explore the theme of heritage – cultural heritage and identity. Our aim is that young people learn from each other’s cultural backgrounds, reflect on their own heritage, and discover how this can be a source of strength for their personal development and their active role in society. From a youth work perspective, the project focuses on participation, empowerment and non-formal learning. The young participants are actively involved in all stages of the project: they contribute to the preparation of the programme, co-create the activities, take responsibility during the exchange, and reflect on the outcomes afterwards. In this way they are not only participants, but co-owners of the project. Through two youth exchanges, one in Lisbon and one in Amsterdam, 28 young people (14 from each city) will live and learn together. They will take part in workshops, debates, creative activities and cultural visits, all designed around the theme of heritage. Daily reflection sessions and the use of Youthpass will help them to become aware of the competences they develop, such as teamwork, intercultural communication, critical thinking and leadership. The project also strengthens the cooperation between Vivell and Gerador. Both organisations bring their experience in youthwork and cultural participation and will exchange methods and practices that can be integrated in their daily work. By doing so, the impact of the project goes beyond the direct participants: local communities in Amsterdam Southeast and Lisbon, schools, youth centres and networks will also benefit from the results. Ultimately, the project contributes to the objectives of Erasmus+ by promoting inclusion, diversity and active citizenship, while at the same time empowering young people to become confident, creative and responsible members of European society.
