Objectives

The project aims to strengthen youth workers’ capacity to respond to complex, unpredictable group situations with confidence, flexibility and care. In daily practice, youth workers are increasingly required to work with diverse groups, emotional pressure, shifting group dynamics and young people who may feel anxious, disengaged or disconnected. This project addresses these realities by supporting youth workers to develop facilitation competences that go beyond fixed methods and planning. Through an 8-day training course, the project focuses on playfulness as a professional competence: the ability to stay present, read group dynamics, experiment responsibly and adapt facilitation in real time. From a youth work practice perspective, this means equipping youth workers with concrete tools to work with the “invisible layers” of groups, such as energy, tension, unspoken emotions and levels of engagement, while also supporting their own wellbeing and resilience. The main objectives of the project are to: – strengthen youth workers’ ability to observe and respond to group dynamics and emotional climate in real time; – provide practical, low-threshold micro-interventions that support inclusion, engagement and group safety; – foster an experimental mindset that allows youth workers to try, adjust and learn without fear of failure; – support wellbeing and sustainability in youth work through embodied and reflective practices; – build stronger group cohesion competences to create trust, cooperation and meaningful participation in diverse youth groups. By achieving these objectives, the project contributes to higher-quality, more responsive and more sustainable youth work practice, benefiting both youth workers and the young people they work with.
