Through “Youth Work in the Age of AI”, we aim to strengthen the capacity of youth workers to respond proactively and responsibly to the rapid digital transformation that is reshaping young people’s lives. Artificial Intelligence is increasingly influencing education, employment, communication and civic participation. However, many youth workers, especially those working in rural or fewer-opportunity contexts, lack structured training on how to understand, use and critically address these technologies in their daily practice. The overall objective of the project is to equip 32 youth workers from different European countries with concrete, practical and transferable competences in AI literacy, digital tools, misinformation awareness and ethical technology use. The focus is not on technical specialisation, but on empowering youth workers to integrate AI-related topics into non-formal education in a critical, inclusive and youth-centred way. From the perspective of youth work practice, the project aims to: - Improve the quality and relevance of youth work by modernising methodologies and integrating accessible AI and digital tools into workshops, youth exchanges and community-based activities. - Strengthen youth workers’ ability to guide young people in navigating misinformation, digital manipulation and ethical dilemmas linked to AI and social media. - Promote digital inclusion by developing low-barrier approaches that can be applied in rural areas, migrant communities and low-resource environments. - Reinforce the role of youth workers as facilitators of critical thinking, active citizenship and democratic participation in the digital age. - Foster innovation in youth work while safeguarding core European values such as human rights, inclusion, equality and participation. - Create a sustainable European community of practice that continues sharing methods, tools and experiences beyond the project’s duration. A key objective is also the co-creation of the Youth Work AI Playbook, an open-access practical resource developed by the participants themselves. This Playbook will contain tested workshop modules, ethical guidelines and ready-to-use tools that can be directly implemented in youth centres, schools, NGOs and community initiatives across Europe. By the end of the project, participating youth workers will not only increase their digital confidence but will also be able to design and deliver concrete activities that combine AI awareness, critical media literacy and inclusive non-formal learning methods. In this way, “Youth Work in the Age of AI” contributes to strengthening the professionalism, innovation and societal impact of youth work, ensuring it remains future-oriented, ethical and accessible to all young people.
