Youth workers around Europe are increasingly expected to tackle environmental sustainability and climate action in their engagements with young people. However, a lot of youth workers do not have useful tools to turn complicated ideas such as sustainability and EU green policies into lessons that inspire young people to take action. Young people frequently think of environmental issues as abstract or disconnected from daily life and overwhelming. This significantly limits their long term engagement. European Green Deal also has big goals for making Europe climate neutral by 2050 cutting greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels and supporting projects like planting 3 billion more trees by 2030. The Green Deal puts a lot of focus on the Circular Economy Action Plan. Its goal is to create long term growth and good jobs while putting less stress on natural resources. Youth workers need new, youth friendly methods that link sustainability education with participation, creativity and real life action in order to make a significant difference in these goals. Gamification and entertaining learning methods have been shown to be very useful in youth work since they boost motivation, involvement and learning retention while making hard topics easier to understand. Goal of proposed Training Course " Youth Empower Green" is to give youth workers tools, methods and skills that they need to better deal with sustainability issues. We do this by using gamification, eco friendly game design and digital learning approaches. The goal of the Training Course is to provide youth workers tools they need to get young people interested in green activities, raise knowledge about the environment and encourage sustainable behaviours. It also aims to make sustainability a bigger part of everyday youth work. Youth Empower Green brings together youth workers from nine nations to offer a place for learning about other cultures, sharing ideas with peers and working together to come up with new methods and develop tools that can be adapted to different local youth work context. Youth Workers will learn about different ways that different countries teach young people about sustainability, discuss problems and solutions and work together to develop tools that can be used in different youth work settings. This international cooperation strengthens the quality and significance of the results and guarantees a substantial multiplier long lasting impact among partner countries. Training course has following goals: - Give youth workers useful tools and methods to include environmental awareness and sustainability in their everyday work with young people. - Teach young workers how to utilise gamification, eco friendly game design and digital technologies to make learning about sustainability fun, participatory and useful. - Give youth workers the tools they need to create and run fun learning programs that get young people to be more environmentally friendly and involved. - Strengthen youth workers leadership, facilitation and communication skills so they can inspire young people, plan group activities and lead projects that focus on sustainability. - Help youth workers learn more about important EU green initiatives such as the European Green Deal, the Circular Economy Action Plan and how sustainability may lead to more green jobs in the future. - Help youth workers run hands on workshops on recycling, upcycling and waste reduction so they may use these skills in their own organisations and communities. - Create real tools e.g. Gamification Toolkit which will be used by youth workers and youth groups after the mobility. - Encourage youth workers from nine different organizations and organisations to work together across borders and build networks that promote the sharing of best practices and the building of long-term partnerships in sustainability education. - Spread the word about the Erasmus+ Program and other programs including Youthpass and SALTO to get more people involved and foster follow up projects. Each participating youth worker will develop at least one gamified sustainability activity ready for immediate implementation after the Training Course. Youth Empower Green will support youth work, get more young people involved in environmental issues and make the connection between sustainability education and employability. It fills the gap between traditional youth work methods and the rising demand for new and action oriented environmental education. It also sets up a framework for future projects at the local, national and European levels.
