The main objective of the project is to create a safe, inclusive, and development oriented meeting place where young people from diverse backgrounds can experience a sense of community, build friendships, and acquire new skills. Through the youth exchange, we aim to support the integration of young people with fewer opportunities, while giving all participants experiences that promote mastery, social belonging, and responsibility for the environment. The project contributes to social inclusion by bringing together young people from Norway and young people with refugee or migration backgrounds in shared activities that strengthen relationships, reduce loneliness, and build trust. In this way, social distance is reduced and participants’ sense of belonging is strengthened. An important part of the programme is developing environmental and sustainability awareness. Through reuse, creative workshops, and nature based activities, participants gain practical experience that makes sustainability relevant and tangible in their everyday lives. At the same time, we strengthen safety, health, and life skills by teaching safe outdoor practices and respect for nature, combined with physical activity that promotes mastery and cooperation. The camp also serves as an arena to reduce linguistic and cultural barriers. Young people are given natural opportunities to practice Norwegian in real situations, while also receiving support in their mother tongue. This facilitates active participation, language development, and intercultural understanding in a safe environment. The project combines social community, nature, creativity, and conscious digital use. Digital tools are used where they meaningfully enhance learning, such as in nature exploration, reflection, and documentation. At the same time, participants learn digital balance, ethical publishing, and fundamental digital literacy – skills that are essential for both youth work and broader social participation. We facilitate personal development by helping young people strengthen their self confidence, social skills, and ability to contribute positively to the community. We also emphasise that the friendships and relationships created should continue beyond the camp, and that participants can reconnect through our weekly youth clubs and activities. In this way, the project achieves long term impact and contributes to increased participation, belonging, and engagement in the local community.
