Objectives

One of the pillars of the AYE Foundation is media education and supporting young people in conscious and responsible use of digital media. We believe that young people should not only be consumers of online content but also competent creators, able to verify information and recognize misinformation. The need for these skills is urgent: according to Eurostat (2024), 97% of Europeans aged 16–29 use the Internet daily, and the European Commission’s Flash Eurobarometer indicates that 86% of citizens consider misinformation on social media a serious threat to democracy. The EY report “Gen Z: A generation poised to reframe the future” confirms that young people actively use digital tools and AI but report gaps in critical content analysis, source verification, and responsible digital content creation. Similar conclusions come from a study conducted by the AYE Foundation in 2025 during media education workshops in schools (N=96): 72% of young people share content without checking the source, 81% struggle to assess information credibility, and 100% have believed at least once in a fake news item. Consultations with youth and partner organization leaders further confirmed a low level of preparation in fact-checking, information ethics, recognizing manipulation, and responsible use of digital tools and AI, despite young people actively creating content on social media. This represents a clear skills gap, which the VERIFY&CREATE project addresses through the “learn–verify–create–share” model. Participants acquire knowledge about media mechanisms and recommendation algorithms, test verification tools (Google Fact Check Tools, InVID, Snopes, Audacity, InShot, Canva, AI tools) in workshop practice, and then create and publicly share reliable content, including vlogs, podcasts, articles, infographics, and visual materials. The project aims to develop media and digital competencies, critical thinking, responsible digital communication, civic engagement, European awareness, and youth empowerment. The project is based on non-formal education methods: project work, simulations, case studies, and learning by doing. Each participant maintains a learning portfolio, documenting tasks, acquired skills, and progress. Short daily reflection sessions and two in-depth summary sessions (midway and at the end of the exchange) are planned. Leaders and coordinators monitor progress and support the Youthpass process, which documents actual learning outcomes, including follow-up activities. Project results include: the creation of at least 60 educational materials (5 vlogs, 5 articles/reports, 15 infographics, 5 podcasts, and 30 visual materials), active management of two youth project channels (Instagram and TikTok), at least 5 local dissemination events, an online campaign with at least 30 publications reaching a minimum of 5,000 people, and a bilingual (Polish and English) educational brochure containing fact-checking tools and verification checklists. The project develops hard digital and media skills, including information verification, multimedia content creation, and working with ICT and AI, as well as soft skills such as teamwork in international groups, intercultural communication, creative problem-solving, and critical thinking. Project objectives are measured through pre/post-tests (minimum 85% increase in misinformation recognition), portfolio and checklist assessments (minimum 80% development of digital skills), surveys and observations (minimum 80% growth in soft skills and European awareness), with follow-up showing continued engagement from at least 50% of participants. Through VERIFY&CREATE, young people become conscious creators of digital content, ambassadors of European values, and active citizens. The project allows them to use ICT and AI tools in practice, develop media and soft skills, and continue disseminating results in local communities, schools, and online. The online brochure and project channels remain accessible after the exchange, enabling youth and partner organizations to continue media education. Through this project, the AYE Foundation supports young people in conscious and responsible use of digital media, promoting active participation in social and European life.
