Objectives

The “Science in Action” project was created out of the need to provide young people with a space where they can discover science through hands-on activities, experimentation, and cooperation, while at the same time developing social competences, creativity, and the ability to work in an international environment. In our daily youth work practice, we observe that traditional school education often does not sufficiently respond to young people’s needs for experiential learning, testing ideas, and creative exploration. There is a lack of spaces where science is perceived as something close to everyday life, accessible, and inspiring. The main objective of the project is to popularise science in an attractive and practical way, while developing key competences among young people, such as creativity, critical thinking, communication, teamwork, and intercultural awareness. By using non-formal education methods – including workshops, field games, simulations, experiments, and creative activities – the project demonstrates that learning can be an engaging process based on real-life experience, and that scientific knowledge has practical applications in solving everyday challenges. The project also responds to young people’s needs related to integration, building self-confidence, and developing a sense of agency. Working in international teams will enable participants to strengthen their ability to cooperate across borders, discover different cultural perspectives, and challenge stereotypes. In this way, the project reinforces young people’s civic competences and their sense of belonging to the European community. A key objective is also to support young people with fewer opportunities, for whom participation in the project will be a real chance to experience international mobility, develop their interests, and strengthen their belief in their own abilities. From a youth work perspective, “Science in Action” combines science with personal and social development. Its aim is not only to transfer knowledge, but to support young people in developing soft skills, a creative approach to challenges, and readiness for active participation in social and educational life.
