Objectives

The project “Climate for the Young! Global and climate youth exchange” was designed in response to the everyday realities we observe in youth work: climate change is a topic that strongly affects young people, yet it often leads to frustration, anxiety and a sense of powerlessness. Many young people feel overwhelmed by the scale of the challenge and lack practical opportunities to turn knowledge into meaningful action. Through this project we want to create a safe, inclusive and youth-friendly learning environment where participants can build understanding, confidence and real agency. The youth exchange will bring together 40 young people from Poland, Romania, Hungary and Latvia, including participants with fewer opportunities. The programme is based on non-formal learning methods: interactive workshops, teamwork in multicultural groups, peer learning, field-based tasks and hands-on project design. This approach ensures that learning is not limited to theory, but connected to everyday life and local community contexts. From a youth work perspective, our objectives focus on long-term development. First, participants will strengthen their climate literacy and their ability to assess sources critically and recognise misinformation. Second, they will develop action-oriented skills: identifying local challenges, planning and implementing activities, dividing responsibilities and evaluating results. Third, the exchange will foster responsibility, solidarity and civic engagement, showing how climate issues relate to wellbeing, social inequalities and young people’s future opportunities. Finally, the project aims to build a network of young climate-aware changemakers who will return home equipped to run awareness sessions, inspire peers and implement small-scale local initiatives using the tools and outputs created during the exchange.
