Objectives

The project “Outside is Calling” was created in response to a real challenge that we observe in our daily youth work practice in Poland, Turkey, Sweden, Italy and Bulgaria – the growing social isolation of young people, excessive screen time, and a decline in motivation for physical activity and civic engagement. In the work of our organisations, we see that young people – especially those with fewer opportunities – have limited access to safe, developmental non-formal learning spaces that strengthen their soft skills, sense of agency and psychological resilience. We want to implement this project because we believe that outdoor education is an effective tool in youth work. It allows learning through experience, strengthens cooperation, communication, leadership and problem-solving skills, while also building relationships and supporting mental well-being. In our practice, we observe that young people learn faster and more effectively when they can act, experience and reflect, rather than passively absorb knowledge. From the perspective of youth work, the project has the following objectives: to strengthen key competences of young people (teamwork, intercultural communication, leadership, problem-solving) through outdoor-based methods, to increase active participation of young people, especially those with fewer opportunities, in local and international activities, to improve the quality of partner organisations’ youth work through the development and implementation of new non-formal education tools, to raise awareness among young people about the balance between the digital and real world and the importance of physical activity for mental health, to develop European youth cooperation and create new initiatives within the Erasmus+ programme (Youth Exchange, Training Course, Sport). The project foresees an 8-day youth exchange in Tykocin with the participation of 30 young people and 5 group leaders. During the mobility, participants will not only take part in outdoor activities, but will also co-create educational tools, develop concepts for future projects and design a social campaign promoting outdoor activity. Our goal is not to organise a one-time event, but to initiate a long-term change in the approach to youth work – towards more engaging, inclusive and experience-based methods that empower young people as active European citizens.
