The project “Echoes of History: Standing Against Hate” was created in response to the growing phenomenon of hate speech, which particularly affects people from minority groups, Roma communities, refugees, the Jewish community, LGBT+ people, and young people in difficult economic situations. In our work with young people, we see that hate has a real impact on their lives, their sense of safety, and their opportunities for development, and that young people often do not know how to respond to it effectively. Our goal is to counteract hatred and build a society based on tolerance, equality, and respect through non-formal education methods. The project combines reflection on history with action in the present. We will show how hate speech led to social catastrophes in the past (the Holocaust, the wars in the Balkans), so that young people can understand that even seemingly harmless manifestations of intolerance can escalate. From the perspective of youth work, our objectives are: • to develop historical awareness and critical thinking, including the ability to recognise fake news and manipulation, • to create space for intercultural dialogue and integration through joint activities involving young people from different backgrounds, • to promote social engagement among young people, who will become ambassadors in the fight against hate in their communities, • to develop future skills: communication, digital, media, leadership, and project skills. Through workshops, storytelling, forum theatre, online campaigns, and actions in public spaces, young people will gain practical tools for action and a sense that their voice matters. The project is not a one-off initiative; we want it to become an impulse for further local, regional, and international activities within the Erasmus+ programme.
