Media literacy and tackling disinformationDemocracy and inclusive democratic participation

Objectives

The project “Media in the Service of Democracy” was developed in response to the growing need for media literacy education and the strengthening of civic competences among young people in Poland. The idea emerged during AYE Foundation workshops in schools in the Lubin municipality, where students expressed strong interest in topics such as media pluralism, fact-checking, disinformation, and the impact of media on democracy. According to Eurostat (2024), 97% of Europeans aged 16–29 use the Internet daily and 86% consider disinformation on social media a serious threat to democracy (EC). M-DEM will include 2 meetings in Kraków, during which young people will participate in workshops, editorial simulations, debates and the creation of their own media content under the guidance of experts and journalists. The project aims to develop critical thinking, media, digital, and civic competences, foster networking, and increase youth engagement in the democratic and public life of Poland.
