Objectives

The primary motivation for this project is the need to address a problem observed for several years: a lack of cultural rootedness among young people and their limited identification with European values. In formal education, prominent cultural figures are often presented theoretically and detached from the daily experiences of youth. Consequently, the ideas and works of authors such as Leonardo da Vinci, Edvard Grieg, and Franz Kafka are perceived as "distant" and outdated. This project is a bottom-up initiative. Its direct impetus came from two students of the Secondary School No. 26 in Łódź - Julia and Emilia, winners of EU knowledge competitions and active civic participants - as well as the results of research (surveys and in-depth interviews) conducted by youth in 2025. This research highlighted a need for a deeper understanding of European identity. The choice of countries to visit and artists to analyze was made by the participants based on their relevance to contemporary issues, such as individual freedom and social relations. Our main goal is to enable participants to "rediscover" great cultural figures through direct contact with the places where they lived and worked. From a youth work perspective, the project focuses on non-formal education: mobility, field research, and artistic activities. This will allow young people to reinterpret classical ideas in the context of modern challenges while developing intercultural competences, critical thinking, and a sense of European community. Project Goals DEFINED BY YOUTH: • Strengthening European identity and cultural rootedness among youth through direct contact with European cultural heritage, field research in locations associated with prominent creators, and reflection on how their ideas and values persist in modern Europe and the daily lives of young people. • Developing intercultural, communication, and civic competences through teamwork, dialogue with peers, and the practical experience of cultural, linguistic, and social diversity. • Developing critical thinking and creative expression through engaging non-formal education methods, using art, storytelling, media, and research activities that enable youth to analyze and reinterpret European ideas in relation to contemporary social challenges. • Increasing a sense of agency and influence over cultural and social narratives by actively involving young people in the project design process, independent research, creative decision-making, and the co-creation of project outcomes. • Strengthening European omnipresent values, i.a: tolerance, mutual understanding, and sensitivity by including young people with fewer opportunities (PwFO) in experience-based and collaborative activities. This is achieved through inclusive methods, mentoring, teamwork, and creating a safe, accessible space that ensures full engagement regardless of barriers. The project is a direct response to a diagnosed problem, the real needs of young people, and the strategic goals of the Foundation. It combines mobility, culture, research, and art, providing young people not only with knowledge about Europe but, above all, the tools to co-create and understand it in a modern context.
