The project ‘KOLEJ NA WAS: Local Perspectives’ is a continuation of creative railway journeys initiated in 2025 by a group of young people implementing their projects at the Eastern Theatre in Lublin. The initiative group includes ‘old’ volunteers who have been active for over a year and ‘new’ volunteers who joined TW in October and November 2025. As a group of young volunteers from the Eastern Theatre, inspired by stories, travel photos and the artistic results of previous trips, we want to carry out another creative travel project across Europe, which this time will focus on learning about local perspectives not only through visits to museums and and sightseeing, but also by planning meetings with young people, institutions, youth workers and activists who are fighting for quality of life in their local communities. Our creative journeys will focus on artistic creation inspired by travels across many European countries. This gives us the opportunity not only to visit another country, but also to delve into its culture and approach to art. Our priority is to involve people affected by various forms of exclusion in this project. Among us are people affected by: - communication exclusion, people living in villages or small towns who have been facing limited development opportunities for years due to difficulties with public transport; -economic exclusion, i.e. people who have limited opportunities for development due to limited financial resources; -social exclusion and discrimination due to their origin, accent in Polish or very basic knowledge of the language, including people affected by the war in Ukraine or young migrants from Belarus; - exclusion due to health conditions – our group includes chronically ill people who must follow special diets or whose daily routine depends on medication. Through this project, we want to give people who, due to various factors beyond their control, have not had the opportunity to travel and explore Europe, the chance to develop through travel. Our goal is to organise a series of trips abroad involving young people at every stage of their creation, which will provide space to broaden their horizons, build self-confidence and allow them to learn about the culture and art of the countries they visit in a very unusual way - by travelling by rail, which gives a chance to all those who have not been able to afford it so far. Thanks to our friends in Berlin, Nurmes in Finland, Kirkareli and Istanbul in Turkey, Vienna, Milan and many other places, we want to learn about the local character of these places, the advantages and challenges of living there, to see the cultural heritage of Europe and feel its cultural diversity. We want ourselves and other young people from our region, especially those affected by life difficulties, to feel part of this environment on a European scale.
