Objectives

The project “Hike to Hype: Sports 4 Social Inclusion” is a celebration of youth dynamism and an invitation for young people to take the lead in social change. Through the energy of sport, the project aims to transform fields and public spaces into arenas of inclusion, where the sharing of experiences has the potential to bring communities closer and break down barriers. We believe that young people’s energy and enthusiasm can capture the attention of the wider community and spark discussion, particularly around social inclusion and the importance of sport as a means of integration. Furthermore, by giving young people a voice and encouraging them to share their experiences, the project seeks to create a sustainable movement that continues to generate dialogue and positive change beyond the project’s duration. The main objective of “Hike to Hype: Sports 4 Social Inclusion” is to promote social inclusion and territorial cohesion among young people, in line with the fundamental values that emerged from Portugal’s transition to democracy. The project aims to uphold values such as inclusion, equal opportunities, freedom and European citizenship, which are essential to building a more cohesive and active society. It addresses equality of opportunities, the freedom to be oneself, and a society in which everyone has space to express themselves. The core focus of the project is to use sporting activities as a platform to develop young people’s social and personal competences, seeking to inspire them to strengthen skills such as empathy, leadership and respect for interculturality. The planned activities aim to develop ethical and social competences, as well as practical skills in areas such as entrepreneurship, negotiation, argumentation and intergenerational communication, thereby fostering a spirit of active and European citizenship. In addition, the project seeks to facilitate cooperation between young people from different countries, with particular attention to those facing greater social disadvantages. Through an experience-based and tolerance-oriented approach, the project provides an environment in which all participants can exchange ideas and experiences, strengthen bonds and promote intercultural dialogue. By implementing this project, we aim both to develop participants’ competences and to create a lasting impact within their communities, promoting sport as a means of inclusion and well-being. Beyond creating unforgettable memories, the project intends to inspire young people to continue making a positive difference. The project is aligned with the values enshrined in Article 2 of the Treaty on European Union, including human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law and respect for human rights. By using sport as an educational tool, the project promotes inclusion, combats discrimination and strengthens young people’s active participation, contributing to the concrete implementation of these values in the European context. The objectives of the project are as follows: •To promote intercultural dialogue by creating spaces for encounter and learning among young people from different countries and backgrounds; •To combat sedentary lifestyles and promote active lifestyles, using sport as a vehicle for social inclusion and personal development; •To stimulate civic participation and active citizenship, strengthening democratic awareness, solidarity and social responsibility; •To develop European identity by bringing young people closer to the common values of the European Union and the Erasmus+ spirit; •To promote sustainability by encouraging environmentally friendly practices linked to the local environment; •To ensure inclusion and accessibility, enabling young people from different backgrounds and with different physical abilities to participate fully; •To disseminate the Erasmus+ programme and European values, motivating young people to engage in future mobility projects and to promote respect, equality and non-discrimination; •To create lasting value within local communities.
