This project aims to make the DiscoverEU experience genuinely accessible to young people with fewer opportunities from the Ave Valley, by removing economic, social and geographical barriers and ensuring that mobility results in meaningful learning, inclusion and lasting participation. The project is co-implemented by Agrupamento de Escolas Terras do Ave (AETA) and YUPI, using a community-based approach and close cooperation with local stakeholders to reach young people who are often excluded from such opportunities. From a youth work practice perspective, the project’s purpose is to empower participants through inclusive, participatory and experiential non-formal education methods, centred on learning by discovery. It aims to strengthen autonomy, self-confidence and life skills, creating a safe and supportive environment where every participant can take an active role, regardless of educational level, confidence or previous travel experience. The specific objectives are to develop leadership and initiative through real responsibilities and role rotation; to foster intercultural competence and inclusion through meaningful encounters, dialogue and storytelling; to strengthen digital and creative competences through accessible tools and practical outputs; and to promote sustainable attitudes by linking mobility to environmentally responsible choices and replicable local actions. Across all phases, young people are involved in planning, implementation and dissemination, with proportional support, continuous mentoring, and strong safety and safeguarding measures. By the end of the project, participants are expected to return more confident, connected and capable, with their learning recognised through Youthpass, and with motivation and tools to participate more in their communities and inspire other young people with fewer opportunities to access European opportunities
