In OnLine Digital Europe, Selfmade wants to enable 20 young people with fewer opportunities from rural Fundão and Castelo Branco to overcome concrete barriers and trigger competence development, in a real chance to travel in Europe. Participants will grow using DiscoverEU journeys as a learning‑through‑discovery experience that builds autonomy, employability skills and active European citizenship. From a youth work perspective, the project is based on youth‑led participation and non‑formal learning. Participants will help co‑design key parts of the journey, take rotating responsibilities in the group and learn about Europe, opportunities, life skills, intercultural dialogue, sustainability and digitalization through real situations: planning routes, buying tickets, managing budgets and resources, solving problems, sharing tasks and communicating across cultures. Each day will include reflection and debrief moments where they identify and document what they learned and how they can use it back home. Support will be individual tailored, with extra help where needed, but always with the aim of gradually increasing independence. The DiscoverEU Inclusion Action is the right framework because it offers a supported group travel format designed for young people with fewer opportunities, who would not feel safe or confident to travel alone. Objective 1 - Organize an intercultural mobility experience for young people from the interior of Castelo Branco, connecting 20 rural youth with fewer opportunities, including 50% embarking on their first international trip outside the Iberian Peninsula. Objective 2 -Develop and apply practical digital and professional skills in AI-supported tools, design, productivity, CV optimisation, photo and video editing, digital organization and online collaboration through non-formal learning activities, including hands-on workshops, group challenges and real-life tasks. Objective 3 - Develop participants’ environmental awareness and sustainability competencies by integrating green choices into everyday decision-making. They will explore the local biodiversity, environmental initiatives and responsible practices with the support of digitalization. Objective 4 - Develop a practical and accessible toolkit to help newcomers and participants from diverse geographical backgrounds in the DiscoverEU program, helping them to better prepare for, navigate and benefit from their European mobility experience. Objective 5 - Promote active citizenship and civic engagement by visiting innovation ecosystems (tech hubs, fab labs, youth centers and national institutions), fostering the exchange of digital and civic best practices and gaining first-hand insights into innovative professional environments across Europe. Objective 6 - Develop key transversal competences, including communication, teamwork, resource management, critical thinking, creativity, responsibility and self-orientation, through active participation in an intercultural environment, clear role distribution and involvement in all project phases, supporting personal learning, professional development and civic engagement. The topics selected for the learning activities are directly applicable to the barriers faced by our targeted participants, including geographical and sociocultural isolation, financial constraints, disabilities and limited access to digital ecosystems. The approach goes beyond visits and workshops, encouraging learning through travel decisions, intercultural exchanges and daily tasks in international settings. The DiscoverEU journey will be enriched through a curated non-formal learning pathway, enabling young people to gain autonomy, document their learning through Youthpass, recognise key competences for civic life, employability and personal development, and return with strengthened self-confidence and a lived sense of belonging to Europe, since it is already happening with various previous DiscoverEU participants that are already proactively involved in Selfmade’ team and volunteering community actions
