Through the Aid Brigade project, we aim to use non-formal education and youth work as concrete tools to respond to a real need identified in our communities: the low level of practical skills and self-confidence among young people when it comes to responding correctly and responsibly in emergency situations. From a youth work practice perspective, the project goes beyond the mere transmission of information and focuses on developing young people’s capacity to act responsibly, empathetically, and in solidarity, transforming them from passive observers into active contributors to community safety. General aim of the project The overall aim of the project is to empower young people to respond safely, effectively, and with confidence in emergency situations by developing first aid skills, psychological first aid competencies, and active citizenship, within a non-formal and intercultural learning framework. To achieve this aim, we set the following objectives: 1.To develop the capacity of 25 young people and 5 group leaders from 5 countries to recognize at least three types of emergency situations; 2.To strengthen participants’ competencies to react in a safe and responsible manner in emergency situations; 3.To develop the ability of the 25 young people and 5 group leaders to use at least two psychological first aid techniques; 4.To strengthen solidarity and active citizenship, so that a significant number of participants express the intention to initiate or continue volunteering and civic engagement activities in their communities after the youth exchange; 5.To increase participants’ level of awareness regarding learning, volunteering, and active participation opportunities available through the Erasmus+ Programme and the European Solidarity Corps. Through these objectives, the project addresses the urgent need for education in the field of first aid and appropriate emergency response, within a safe, inclusive, and collaborative environment where young people learn together, support one another, and strengthen their role as active citizens in their communities.
