Objectives

Eco Mission aims to empower 27 young participants to become informed, engaged, and proactive changemakers in their local and European communities by strengthening their environmental awareness, personal agency, and capacity for civic and intercultural action, offering a deeply experiential learning journey where young people are placed at the centre of every phase, from preparation to follow-up. From a youth work perspective, the idea for this project was initiated by Marilena, Marco, Aintzane, and Katazyna, who, after analysing the state of sustainability in their respective countries, recognised a shared need to equip young people with tools to better understand and act on environmental issues. They saw the importance of combining awareness-raising on sustainability with the power of digital tools and non-formal education methods, creating a project that could inspire meaningful, youth-led change across Europe. Eco Mission seeks to create spaces where young people are not passive recipients of content, but rather co-creators of their learning. Youth workers and group leaders act as facilitators, mentors, and safe adults, guiding the 27 participants as they explore complex global issues such as climate change, sustainability, and social justice, while also nurturing emotional intelligence, resilience, and leadership skills. The project is guided by a clear set of strategic objectives, aligned with Erasmus+ goals and the European Youth Goals. These include: -To enhance 27 participants’ understanding of sustainability and environmental responsibility, using creative, practical, and collaborative activities that link global issues with everyday action. Through sessions like the Upcycling Lab, Eco Campaign Design, and community-based storytelling, youth gain not only awareness but also the confidence to act. -To increase inclusive youth participation and access, especially for young people facing economic, social, or geographic barriers. The selection, preparation, and follow-up phases include dedicated inclusion strategies: individual pre-checks, buddy systems, accessibility tools, multilingual resources, and personalised support ensure that no one is left behind. -To develop essential life and employability skills, particularly focusing on the EU Key Competences such as learning to learn, social and civic competence, digital literacy, and environmental awareness. These are tracked through self-assessment grids, daily learning journals, and the final Youthpass workshop, enabling youth to recognise and articulate their growth. -To cultivate intercultural dialogue and European solidarity, by creating a safe and stimulating environment where the 27 participants from diverse cultural backgrounds collaborate, reflect, and live together. Through Intercultural Challenge Week, co-designed sessions, and country-led evenings, young people explore shared values and celebrate diversity. -To support youth-led civic engagement and local impact, by empowering the 27 participants to create and implement their own local Eco Campaigns after mobility. These actions, designed during the exchange and implemented after return, promote active citizenship and social responsibility, while strengthening youth leadership within their own communities. -To build the capacity of youth organisations and foster long-term cooperation, by sharing methodologies, resources, and evaluation practices across countries. The project includes transnational partner meetings, an Evaluation Toolkit, and structured moments for youth workers to exchange practices and improve inclusion and sustainability in their local work. -To strengthen the emotional and mental wellbeing of youth, recognising the link between climate challenges and psychological strain. The project includes dedicated wellbeing spaces, mental health support, and reflection practices that allow youth to process emotions and build resilience. Eco Mission integrates a multi-layered evaluation strategy that monitors progress on these objectives through pre/post questionnaires, reflection tools, feedback loops, and creative testimonies. This ensures that impact is not only measured in participation rates, but in transformed attitudes, behaviours, and competences. Importantly, the youth-led dimension of Eco Mission does not end with mobility. A major objective is to ensure that the 27 participants are inspired to stay engaged and take their experience further. To that end, the partnership is committed to co-designing a follow-up KA210 project or Erasmus+ Training Course, based on the expressed interest and motivation of the young people involved. Many of them have already shown the desire to share their learning with peers, deepen their knowledge on youth activism and sustainability, and scale their campaigns through structured youth work activities. The future project will aim to train more young leaders and engage more communities, making the Eco Mission legacy long-lasting and scalable.
