Objectives

Kaleido Youth Exchange aims to strengthen young people’s ability to live and act in diverse societies by combining conflict transformation, cultural mediation and advanced digital/media literacy. In our daily youth work, we see the same pattern across the five partner communities (Bucharest/Ilfov, La Spezia, Belen, Sofia, Oiartzun): interpersonal tensions escalate quickly, online polarisation amplifies stereotypes, and young people—especially those facing economic, cultural or geographical barriers—often lack structured non-formal learning opportunities to turn conflict into dialogue and to respond to misinformation with ethical, civic-facing communication. This project converts those needs into a coherent learning flow (identity → conflict → mediation → institutional practice → online conflicts → counter-narratives → fake news storytelling → follow-up action) and ensures continuity through mentoring and local micro-initiatives SO1 – Enhance cultural mediation and digital literacy skills of 32 participants (27 young people + 5 group leaders) from Romania, Italy, Spain, Türkiye and Bulgaria through an 8-day programme in Bucharest (12–19 March 2027), focusing on critical thinking, empathy and responsible online engagement. This is achieved through: (a) mediation and de-escalation practice (e.g., listening and non-violent communication tools + a professional mediator session); (b) media literacy and online conflict analysis (bias, bubbles, hate dynamics); (c) creative digital expression (ethical storytelling and short video production) to transform learning into concrete counter-narratives. SO2 – Promote inclusion, representation and equal participation by engaging 10 young people with fewer opportunities in all phases, fostering belonging and empowerment during the full 12-month project cycle. Inclusion is operational: disadvantaged participants co-shaped priorities, receive reinforced mentoring and accessible preparation, and are supported to lead at least part of the follow-up actions as visible local multipliers rather than passive beneficiaries. SO3 – Strengthen the operational and pedagogical capacity of the five partner organisations to support youth in navigating intercultural tensions and digital misinformation during 12 months, through exchange of methodologies, joint facilitation, peer learning and structured follow-up. The partnership is designed to avoid overlap: each partner contributes a distinct competence set that “locks” into the learning journey and is tested through co-facilitation, daily reflections and post-mobility replication in local youth work settings.
