By implementing Speak To Me Gently, we aim to strengthen the quality, relevance, and impact of youth work by equipping young people with practical tools in non-violent communication, peaceful mediation, and intercultural dialogue, while creating transferable methodologies that can be used in future youth work activities across Europe. From a youth work practice perspective, the project addresses concrete gaps identified by partner organisations: limited confidence among young people in supporting strangers emotionally, avoidance of third-party conflict intervention, discomfort in multicultural dialogue, and lack of structured methods to transfer communication skills into communities. Objective 1: Equip young people with practical Non-Violent Communication tools to emotionally support others beyond their close social circle. In youth work practice, emotional support often remains informal and unstructured. Through experiential learning methods (role-play, mediation simulations, empathy exercises), the project provides young people with concrete tools they can apply in youth centres, schools, volunteering contexts, and community initiatives. This strengthens youth work by promoting peer-to-peer support culture and increasing young people’s ability to act as responsible community members. Objective 2: Strengthen confidence in acting as peaceful mediators in conflicts not directly involving them. Youth workers frequently observe that young people avoid intervening in conflicts between peers. By developing mediation skills and confidence through guided simulations and structured reflection, the project promotes proactive citizenship and peaceful conflict transformation. This contributes to youth work practice by encouraging active bystander behaviour, reducing escalation of conflicts, and promoting safe and inclusive youth environments. Objective 3: Increase intercultural communication competence and inclusive dialogue skills. In multicultural youth exchanges and local youth settings, misunderstandings often arise due to stereotypes or low comfort in intercultural communication. The project strengthens intercultural competence through mixed-nationality teamwork, guided reflection, and inclusive facilitation techniques. From a youth work perspective, this enhances the quality of international cooperation, supports inclusion of young people with fewer opportunities, and improves dialogue in diverse youth groups. Objective 4: Empower young people to transfer NVC skills into their communities through dissemination and peer education. Youth work should not end with mobility. A core objective of this project is to develop young multipliers who can design and deliver structured workshops in their local communities. Participants will co-create a practical Toolkit and implement local dissemination workshops, transforming learning outcomes into community action. This strengthens youth work practice by creating youth-led peer education models, providing reusable NVC methodologies, and increasing the long-term sustainability of Erasmus+ results. Through this project, we aim to: - Improve the quality of non-formal education practices in partner organisations - Provide structured communication and mediation tools for youth workers - Increase youth participation in conflict prevention and inclusion efforts - Strengthen European cooperation through shared methodologies “Speak To Me Gently” is not only a youth exchange, it is a capacity-building experience for youth work practice, generating concrete tools, trained peer educators, and transferable methods that can be integrated into future Erasmus+ and local youth initiatives.
