Objectives

Through the “CONNECT-ART” project, we aim to respond to a real need identified in the field: the lack of accessible and effective tools available to youth workers to facilitate the emotional and social inclusion of vulnerable young people with fewer opportunities. Our goal is to propose an experiential, arts-based and process-oriented approach, centered on safe self-expression through creative writing and theatre techniques, as a means of promoting inclusion. From a youth work practice perspective, the overall objective is to strengthen the impact of 10 youth workers from Romania and Greece by transforming them into facilitators of creative processes through which vulnerable young people can rebuild their self-confidence, voice, and sense of belonging. To achieve this aim, we have defined the following specific objectives, which directly target the competences and practical tools of youth workers: Development of the youth worker’s practical toolbox (hard skills). By the end of the mobility, each of the 10 youth workers will master at least eight structured techniques (four from creative writing and four from applied theatre), including exercises such as guided journaling, associative free writing, forum theatre techniques for conflict resolution, and activities aimed at building group cohesion. Learning a methodology for facilitating emotionally safe spaces (soft skills and attitudes). Throughout the 10 days of mobility, participants will practice and internalise principles and techniques for creating an inclusive environment in which the voices of vulnerable participants and authentic expression are protected. This will be assessed through simulations and the analysis of reflective journals. The objective is for youth workers to manage intense personal content more confidently and with greater emotional intelligence when working with trauma, marginalisation, or exclusion, thus transforming the workshop into a space that supports healing. Creation and testing of innovative and adaptable activity plans. Within the first three months after the mobility, each participant will design, implement and document at least two new educational activities tailored to the needs of their local community (e.g. a journaling club for girls in residential care, an image theatre workshop for refugee youth). This objective supports the shift from replicating existing models to context-based creative design, which is at the core of high-quality youth work. It measures the capacity for innovation and adaptation, not merely reproduction. Building a practical support network. Six months after the end of the project, 100% of participants will remain active in the online community of practice, and at least 80% will report having sought or offered peer support in addressing a practical challenge through the network. This directly addresses professional isolation and burnout, which are common in the youth work sector. The objective fosters professional interdependence and the habit of seeking feedback, both essential for quality development. Creation of shareable resources. Within six months after the mobility, the partners will finalise and disseminate the CONNECT-ART Methodological Guide, a practical resource including workshop plans, facilitation guidelines and adapted evaluation tools, ensuring sustainability and the multiplication of impact beyond the direct participants. The guide will enable other colleagues within the organisations to adopt the methods, thus standardising a new quality offer in services for vulnerable young people. Strengthening transnational cooperation. Within 12 months after the mobility, the two partner organisations will formally develop a joint follow-up project proposal at the next level (e.g. a KA1 youth exchange applying the CONNECT-ART methods). This demonstrates that the exchange of good practices is not a one-off event but the starting point of a cycle of collaborative innovation. This objective reflects a strong commitment to integrating an international perspective into the development of local youth services.
