Objectives

By implementing our project, we aim to strengthen the quality, innovation and inclusiveness of youth work practice within 10 participating organisations by developing youth workers’ competences to use offline and digital games in natural environments as structured non-formal learning methods. Our project responds to clearly identified needs in youth work: limited connection of young people to nature, an imbalance between digital and offline activities, and the lack of practical competences among youth workers to design and facilitate educational games that are inclusive, participatory and pedagogically meaningful. The core objective of the project is to strengthen the competences of 40 youth workers from 10 partner organisations through a 7-day international training course focused on game-based learning in nature. From a youth work practice perspective, the project aims to move beyond games as entertainment and support youth workers in using them as intentional educational tools with clear learning objectives, reflection elements and inclusive facilitation approaches. Special emphasis is placed on the responsible integration of simple digital tools (e.g. for observation, storytelling or interaction) that complement outdoor learning without replacing face-to-face interaction or experiential learning in nature. Specifically, the project objectives are to enable youth workers to: • design and facilitate offline and digital educational games adapted to outdoor and natural settings; • use nature as a safe, accessible and motivating learning space for diverse groups of young people, including those with fewer opportunities; • combine digital and non-digital elements in a balanced and purposeful way that supports participation and learning; • apply non-formal education principles to foster inclusion, cooperation, wellbeing and active participation; • reflect on learning processes and professional development using Youthpass and the ETS competence model. The training course follows a progressive learning journey, combining experiential learning, outdoor challenges, game testing, design labs and guided reflection. Youth workers actively experience games in nature, analyse their educational potential, and co-create their own game-based activities. This approach ensures direct transferability to daily youth work practice. Inclusion, wellbeing and environmental awareness are addressed both as content and through methodology, ensuring low-threshold participation and reduced cultural, linguistic and social barriers. Beyond the mobility activity itself, the project aims to generate long-term impact on youth work practice. Participants will co-create an E-booklet on offline and online games in nature for youth work practitioners, which will serve as a practical resource for organisations, youth workers and volunteers. After the training, participants will implement local follow-up activities with young people, share methods with colleagues, and disseminate results through workshops, local networks and online platforms. In this way, the project contributes not only to individual competence development, but also to organisational learning, innovation and recognition of youth work at local, national and European levels.
