The main aim of Smart Youth Work is to help youth workers feel confident, prepared and responsible when integrating artificial intelligence into their daily work with young people. Across Europe, AI tools are already shaping how young people learn, communicate and access information, yet many youth workers feel uncertain about how to use these tools safely, ethically and meaningfully in non-formal education. Through this project, we want to close that gap and support youth workers in moving from curiosity and hesitation to practical and confident use. The project has three core objectives. First, we want to strengthen youth workers’ digital competences by giving them hands-on experience with accessible AI tools that can support communication, project planning, learning activities and inclusion. Participants will not only discover tools, but will test them, reflect on their usefulness and learn how to adapt them to real youth work situations. Second, we aim to develop a critical and ethical approach to AI in youth work. The project will help participants understand risks such as misinformation, bias, privacy and over-reliance on automation, and explore how youth workers can guide young people in using technology responsibly. We want participants to leave the training not only with technical skills, but with the confidence to facilitate discussions about digital responsibility and critical thinking with young people. Third, we want to support long-term change in youth organisations by creating a practical online platform gathering tested AI tools, tutorials and examples from practice. This platform will make the results of the training accessible to a wider community of youth workers and encourage continued experimentation after the mobility ends. From a youth work perspective, the project focuses on improving the quality, relevance and innovation of non-formal education. By the end of the project, participants will be better prepared to design engaging activities, communicate more effectively with young people, and support digital inclusion in their communities.
