Objectives

The Connect through Culture project aims to provide an inclusive DiscoverEU travel opportunity for 8 young people from Plăieșii de Jos, enabling them to participate in the DiscoverEU programme in 2026 and 2027 and visit three different European countries while exploring the cultural diversity of Europe. The project is designed specifically for young people with fewer opportunities, offering them first-time international mobility and meaningful learning through culture-based experiences. The central theme of the journey is cultural diversity in Europe. Since its establishment, Kazun Association has used culture as a non-formal educational tool to support learning, inclusion, and personal development among local youth. The DiscoverEU Inclusion Activity will build upon and upscale our approach by extending cultural learning to a European level. The planned journey will include countries from Central and Southern Europe, offering participants a gradual transition through different cultural contexts, customs, languages, and rural and urban environments. This geographical and cultural diversity will enable participants to compare realities across Europe and better understand the concept of unity in diversity. During the travel, participants will take part in at least four cultural activities of their choice, identified and planned in advance. These activities may include visiting museums and exhibitions, attending local festivals or music events, exploring multicultural neighbourhoods, discovering historical sites, and spending time in community or youth spaces. The planned journeys were co-designed with local youth during the yearly planning session: Connect through Culture - Mobility 1: Romania-Hungary-Austria-Italy-Austria-Hungary-Romania Connect through Culture - Mobility 2: Romania-Hungary-Austria-Czech Republic-Hungary-Romania Participants of the project will include 8 young people aged 18-21. They come from Plăieșii de Jos, a rural village in Harghita County where Kazun Association operates. The local populatoin here consists mainly of Hungarian and Roma minorities. Apart from being part of a minority group, youth here face multiple, intersecting obstacles related to geographical isolation of the village, economic disadvantage, limited access to education, and linguistic barriers. These linguistic barriers, combined with economic constraints and limited international exposure, significantly reduce their access to Erasmus+ mobility projects and other international learning opportunities. The concrete objectives of the Connect through Culture projects are: 1. To organize 2 international journeys with 4 young people and 1 team leader in each group visiting at least 3 European countries; 2. To increase the intercultural awareness and understanding of the participating young people by developing at least 1 KSA during the journey (Knowledge, Skill, Attitude); 3. Reach 20 local youth with fewer opportunities with a dissemination event to promote EU opportunities for young people.
