Objectives

The implementation of this DiscoverEU Inclusion Action (KA155) project aims primarily to transform European mobility into a pedagogical tool for social intervention, tailored to the specific needs of young people with fewer opportunities in our community. From a youth work perspective, our objectives are structured to facilitate the participants' transition from a state of resignation and self-exclusion to one of active citizenship and autonomy. 1. Facilitating Social Inclusion and Equitable Access to Mobility Our central objective is to demonstrate that Europe is a space accessible to everyone by providing four young people—who face financial and geographical barriers, disabilities, or belong to minorities—with the necessary support to travel on an equal footing with their peers. We utilize mobility as a safe framework for integration, where structured support before, during, and after the journey eliminates the fear of the unknown and the logistical barriers that would have prevented them from applying individually. 2. Developing Autonomy and Life Competencies (Soft Skills) We want these young people to become the protagonists of their own development. Through the "learning by doing" method, they will not merely be passengers but will be directly involved in managing the practical aspects of the trip. This includes increasing their capacity for orientation in unfamiliar spaces, managing tickets and train connections, as well as administering a common micro-budget. The accompanying mentor will act as a facilitator, encouraging the youth to interact with station staff or locals in foreign languages, thereby strengthening their self-confidence. 3. Combatting Learned Helplessness through Co-design Many young people from disadvantaged backgrounds or with disabilities tend to have low self-esteem and a lack of initiative caused by their social context. We aim for the active involvement of participants in planning the route and secondary activities. Intended Impact: Transforming their mindset from one of being a "victim" of circumstances to that of a citizen with rights and the capacity for decision-making. 4. Consolidating European Identity and Civic Spirit We aim to "bring Europe closer," transforming abstract concepts into tangible experiences. Activities: Visiting youth centers in Belgrade and Budapest and observing sustainability best practices in Ljubljana. Participants will thus understand how EU policies (mobility, environmental protection, minority rights) directly influence their quality of life and how they can become "green ambassadors" or civic leaders in their own localities. Methodology and the Learning Dimension All these objectives are supported by non-formal education methods: Reflection Journals and Daily Debriefing: Utilizing methods such as "the rose, the thorn, and the bud" to transform experiences into conscious lessons. Digital Documentation: Using social networks (TikTok, Instagram) to give a voice to young people who are usually "invisible," while simultaneously improving their digital literacy. Individual Objectives for Participants: Youth 1: Overcoming Socio-Economic Barriers Acquiring the ability to manage a limited travel budget, learning to prioritize essential expenses, and identifying free or affordable resources within a European context. Reducing feelings of inferiority caused by material circumstances through active participation in international activities, demonstrating that access to non-formal education is a right, not a financial privilege. Youth 2: Overcoming Geographical Barriers Developing the capacity to navigate independently through complex transport systems (metro, international stations) and developed urban infrastructure, reducing the experience gap compared to youth from large urban centers. Overcoming geographical isolation by establishing direct contacts with youth from other European capitals, facilitating integration into a support network that extends beyond the borders of their home locality. Youth 3: Integration in the Context of Disabilities or Health Issues Learning how to effectively communicate their own accessibility needs and learning pace to service providers (transport, accommodation) and the rest of the group. Demonstrating the ability to complete a complex international itinerary through adaptation and support, transforming the experience into proof of their own potential for independent living. Youth 4: Combatting Discrimination and Integrating Minorities Developing the courage to express their own cultural identity in a multilingual and multicultural context, understanding that their diversity is an added value for the European community. Identifying and comparing minority protection mechanisms in the visited countries to acquire tools for combatting stereotypes that can be applied later in their home community.
