Objectives

In the nowadays media-saturated reality, the modern youth is persistently exposed to the global interrelated complex challenges, including climate change, armed conflicts, economic disparity, rising extremism, and various environmental and omnipresent mental health concerns. These issues often leave many young individuals feeling desperate, anxious, and as a result disengaged from society, or adopting extremist stands. Interconnected with high youth unemployment rates and lack of capacity of support systems to meet growing complexity, this situation leads to feelings of depression and anger among young people. In light of this, it is crucial to offer solutions and empower the younger generation, who will face and work through these pressing crises. Many youth today are showing a growing interest in sustainable living and actively seek ecologically and socially responsible economic opportunities. They are motivated to create positive changes within their communities, yet there is a lack of viable options visible or experienced. The project "Bridgedale: From Ego to Eco" responds directly to these challenges by enhancing skills and professional capacities of youth workers. This project specifically targets those dedicated to fostering a more eco-centric culture as a response to the current challenges. It uses the Bridgedale methodology previously developed in a Erasmus+ KA2 partnership. The toolkit encompasses 16 domains of sustainability, featuring over 80 experiential activities inspired by grassroots solutions. These activities offer insights into contemporary challenges and real-life examples of alternative approaches, encouraging constructive societal engagement. The program focuses on 4 main areas of sustainability: ecology, society, economy, and culture, while employing experiential learning techniques such as games, workshops, personal explorations, and storytelling to create deep learning experiences. The comprehensive methodology is detailed in a 300+ page manual available online, but the training delivers hands-on experience, substantial inspiration, empowerment, and inclusive facilitation methods for implementing the toolkit. Hosted at Earthbound Housing Cooperative, a youth-led project, the training showcases several concepts outlined in Bridgedale, including local sustainable businesses, organic agriculture, circular economies, engaged citizenship, ecological solutions, and a focus on community and inclusion. Earthbound serves as a powerful example of what committed young citizens can achieve. The project also addresses the expressed needs of partner organizations by creating an experiential learning environment for youth workers. It incorporates various informal and non-formal learning approaches contained within Bridgedale, providing youth workers with a robust toolkit and effective facilitation techniques. With both practical training elements and virtual components, this initiative aims to strengthen youth workers' capacity to guide young individuals beyond feelings of crisis and support them to understand, address, and adapt to challenges on multiple fronts. It provides them with the tools to engage positively with modern difficulties and to participate in societal actions and economic endeavors inclusively, fostering their ability to become active citizens committed to cultivating a fairer, more inclusive, and sustainable future. This training specifically targets youth workers supporting those young people who struggle with mental health challenges linked to the climate crisis, often feeling paralyzed and isolated, especially in rural areas and marginalized social contexts. By equipping these workers, the project helps them provide valuable support, knowledge, and opportunities for personal and social growth. It enhances constructive attitudes, promotes active citizenship, and inspires sustainable choices in alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Ultimately, the project's primary goals are to: - Equip youth workers with innovative tools to assist young individuals in navigating crises and engaging positively in societal change. - Offer methodologies for the educational, professional, and personal development of youth workers, enhancing their skills and competencies in this field. - Build the capacity of youth workers to tackle complex issues related to climate change, ecology, society, and the economy, motivating youth to pursue solutions. - Foster a green entrepreneurial mindset and promote values-based livelihoods, particularly in rural regions. - Integrate an eco-centric perspective into mainstream culture. - Encourage inclusion and solidarity, combat discrimination. - Stimulate youth involvement in democratic processes. - Promote international collaboration and European values such as active citizenship, solidarity, and respect for diversity, while also supporting the eastern periphery of Europe in mainstreaming these principles.
