The project is based on the needs of young people with fewer opportunities, particularly young people with intellectual disabilities, who often express a strong desire for more opportunities for social interaction, acceptance, independence and a sense of belonging. In their everyday lives, these young people frequently face prejudice, limited social contacts and feelings of exclusion, which negatively affect their self-confidence and the development of social and communication skills. At the same time, children and young people often lack direct experience of interacting with persons with different disabilities and express a need for safe and positive opportunities for contact, as prejudices and stereotypes frequently arise from a lack of knowledge and personal experience. Through existing projects, young people have expressed a need for more shared, relaxed meetings where they can get to know each other in a natural way – through play, cooperation and shared experiences. Based on long-term cooperation, children in mainstream schools have also expressed interest and a desire to socialise with young people with fewer opportunities. The objectives of the project, developed together with young people, are to create a safe and inclusive environment for social interaction and cooperation between young people with fewer opportunities and children, to reduce prejudice and stereotypes through direct experience, to strengthen self-confidence, independence and social skills of young people with fewer opportunities, and to enable young people to take an active role in co-creating and implementing activities. The project promotes acceptance of diversity, solidarity and a sense of belonging to the community, and indirectly contributes to the reduction of peer violence, which often stems from misunderstanding and non-acceptance of differences.
