Through the implementation of the project Visible Youth Work – Beyond Scripts and Borders, we aim to contribute to the long-term development of high-quality, inclusive and internationally connected youth work that uses theatre improvisation and other performative methods as tools for learning, inclusion and the active participation of young people through content that is meaningful and relevant to them. The first objective of the project is to strengthen the competences of youth workers in applying improvisational and performative methods in youth work practice. We pursue this goal through in-depth presentations of the methodologies of the ŠILA and Bodigatreba programmes, where mentors from Društvo IMPRO present concrete examples of exercises, mentoring approaches and structures of working with young people. At the same time, WUK KinderKultur practitioners contribute their own pedagogical perspectives through their workshops, focusing on non-verbal improvisation, physical presence, listening and audience involvement. The aim is for improvisation to be used more consciously as a pedagogical tool for building a safe space, fostering cooperation and strengthening the social and communication competences of young people. The second objective is to enable an in-depth exchange of methods and good practices between the partner organisations. This takes place through structured professional discussions, analysis of concrete situations from practice, and joint reflection after workshops and the performance viewing. Participants compare organisational approaches, mentoring styles, ways of addressing group dynamics, and their understanding of the role of art in youth work. In this way, the project directly influences the development of programmes in both organisations – both in terms of content and in the way support for young people is structured. The third objective is to develop approaches that connect young people’s digital realities with theatre-based methods. Today, young people bring elements of digital culture into creative processes – from humour to communication styles. Through workshops and professional discussions, we explore how to recognise these influences and integrate them into improvisation in a way that encourages reflection rather than mere reproduction. Our aim is to enable young people to develop their own authentic expression while strengthening their critical understanding of the world in which they live. The fourth objective is to strengthen the intercultural dimension of youth work for the participating organisations and beyond. Cooperation between organisations from Slovenia and Austria creates space for an encounter between different organisational cultures, pedagogical approaches and artistic traditions. Intercultural learning takes place not only among professionals but also among young participants, who experience different approaches and a broader European context through workshops and interaction with international mentors. The project thus increases participants’ confidence in working in international settings and opens the door for further cross-border cooperation. The fifth objective is to increase the visibility of theatre improvisation as an effective tool in youth work. By linking the project to the Goli oder festival, youth work is presented within a public artistic context, highlighting its structured, reflective and developmental nature. The final objective of the project is to lay the foundations for long-term international cooperation and future Erasmus+ initiatives. Through joint planning, implementation and evaluation, we build trust and concrete foundations for future projects. The mobility is therefore not an isolated exchange, but a strategic step toward sustainable partnership and continued collaboration.
