Through this project, we aim to provide young people with fewer opportunities equal access to inclusive and safe international mobility. Participants will benefit by enhancing their communication, adaptability, and intercultural understanding. Our approach involves youth work, non-formal and experiential learning, and active participation. The project’s goal is to empower young people to develop key life and social skills through the DiscoverEU travel experience and strengthen their sense of belonging to the European community. The project addresses the needs of young people who, due to social, economic, family, or geographic constraints, are less likely to access international opportunities. In youth work practice, we offer these young people their first — or one of very few — experiences of independent travel abroad. This takes place in a safe, supportive, and mentor-guided environment. In doing so, we enable them to gain experiences they would otherwise miss and help reduce inequalities in mobility and learning. The core objectives of the project are to: • strengthen young people’s personal, social, and civic competences, particularly self-confidence, independence, responsibility, cooperation, and communication skills; • develop intercultural understanding and tolerance through direct contact with different cultures, languages, and ways of life across Europe; • encourage active youth participation in all phases of the project — from travel planning and content research to the implementation of activities, reflection, and sharing of experiences; • connect formal knowledge with youth work practice, as young people build on school-based learning about prominent European writers, scientists, athletes, and musicians through experiential learning in real-life settings; • foster critical thinking, awareness of European values and democratic culture, and the ability to recognize and reject stereotypes and hate speech; • strengthen language, digital, and organizational skills that are essential for young people’s further education and employability; • promote sustainable thinking and responsible behavior, particularly regarding travel, the environment, and healthy lifestyles. In line with youth work principles, the project will provide a safe space for learning. Young people, supported by mentors, can test abilities, take responsibility, make decisions, and learn through experience. Participation will help them develop a positive relationship with themselves, others, and the community, and encourage a more active role in society. The project’s ultimate goal is for young people with fewer opportunities to return from their journey more self-confident, independent, and motivated. They should be ready for further learning, mobility, and active citizenship. This reflects the essence of high-quality youth work practice within the Erasmus+ DiscoverEU program.
