As a group of young people, we want Hope on Four Paws to show what youth work can really do when it is connected to real needs in the community. We do not see ourselves only as learners, but as active actors who can respond to social problems with empathy, creativity, and responsibility. Through this project, we want to prove that young people can contribute in a concrete and meaningful way to animal welfare, community engagement, and social change. What we want to achieve is a strong connection between youth participation and animal welfare. In our communities, and especially in the Košice region, we see overcrowded dog shelters, low adoption rates, and a lack of awareness about responsible adoption. At the same time, many young people want to help, but do not know how or where to start. This project gives us a real space to act. By working directly with Útulok UVP Košice shelter, building eco-friendly dog houses, creating digital adoption tools, and co-organising a public adoption event, we turn youth work into practical action that has visible results. From the perspective of youth work practice, our main aim is to learn by doing. Instead of lectures, we learn through experience, teamwork, reflection, and responsibility. We want to develop empathy, civic engagement, digital competence, and practical skills, while also strengthening our confidence as young people who can initiate and lead positive change. We also want to build long-term youth involvement by supporting the creation of a local volunteering club and motivating ourselves and others to stay active after the exchange. Objectives of our project 1. Increase our knowledge and awareness of animal welfare, responsible pet ownership, and adoption practices by at least 60%, measured through reflection sessions, self-assessments, and evaluation forms. 2. Strengthen empathy, social responsibility, and civic engagement by at least 40%, through direct cooperation with the local dog shelter and interaction with the community. 3. Improve teamwork and intercultural communication skills by at least 50%, by working in mixed international groups and sharing responsibilities throughout the project. 4. Develop basic practical skills in sustainable construction and environmental responsibility by building eco-friendly wooden dog houses together. 5. Enhance digital literacy and ethical awareness by at least 45%, through hands-on use of AI-based storytelling, 3D design, QR codes, and media tools for social impact. 6. Improve organisational, communication, and leadership skills by at least 30%, through planning, promoting, and implementing a public adoption and awareness event. 7. Increase our confidence in initiative-taking and problem-solving by actively involving us in decision-making, task distribution, and activity design. 8. Create long-term youth engagement by supporting the establishment of a local volunteering club and encouraging continued involvement in animal welfare after the exchange. All these objectives are directly linked to youth work practice. They focus on non-formal learning, peer learning, inclusion, active participation, and learning through real-life experiences. Through Hope on Four Paws, we want to grow not only in skills and knowledge, but also in values, responsibility, and motivation to stay active as young citizens who care about animals, communities, and society as a whole.
