The project "The Power of Volunteering" currently aims to provide young people with a new perspective on civic life in the 21st century and on the importance of civic education, which in the light of recent events has proven to be a necessity. The importance of civic awareness acquired through informal methods is undeniable, and civic education is currently being applied, whether in terms of principles or tools necessary not only for personal development, but also for a healthy social life. Non-formal methods are intended to develop the skills and abilities of young people and motivate them to actively participate in innovative initiatives in their communities. This experience motivates them to become active members and role models of engagement, thereby developing their social side, subsequently moving the community towards prosperity. The PVoV project combines statistical data with real needs identified directly by young people and represents a comprehensive response to the level of involvement, lack of practical experience and weak motivation of young people in the field of community life. Our main goal is to increase youth participation in voluntary activities and develop the necessary skills, knowledge and motivation so that they can subsequently become active citizens involved in their communities. The project also creates space for the active participation of young people not only as beneficiaries of activities, but also as creators of local voluntary initiatives during the follow-up phase of the project. The project responds to these priorities by supporting environmentally responsible activities, the social inclusion of young people with fewer opportunities and the development of digital skills through the creation of online dissemination materials (videos, blogs, campaigns). Currently, we can see that a large part of graduates acquire mostly theoretical knowledge without sufficient preparation for its application in real life. This often leads to unemployment or low motivation to engage in educational programs. Volunteering as a form of non-formal education allows young people to develop practical competences such as teamwork, communication, problem solving, responsibility and initiative, which are highly valued in the labor market. Based on these needs, the project supports: • The achievement of specific learning outcomes for participants through practical activities that enhance their personal development, employability and active citizenship • The professional development of youth workers and partner organisations through the exchange of innovative non-formal methods • Improving language skills of participants • Increasing intercultural understanding and building a European identity • Increasing the capacities and international dimension of partner organisations • Strengthening synergies between formal and non-formal education • Better recognition of competences acquired through volunteering experiences The project also directly contributes to the objectives of the European Youth Strategy 2019-2027: • Promoting the active participation of young people in democratic and community life through practical initiatives • Connecting young people from different EU countries to strengthen solidarity, volunteering and intercultural understanding • Raising awareness of European opportunities for youth, including volunteering programmes and mobilities In the Slovak context, several youth organisations and local initiatives point to the low level of involvement of young people in community life, especially in smaller towns and rural areas, where access to non-formal education and volunteering opportunities is limited. The project directly responds to these challenges by providing young people from Slovakia with practical experiences in volunteering, intercultural learning and the development of active citizenship.
