By implementing the project, we aim to systematically strengthen the capacities of youth workers in the field of environmental and values-based youth work, with a specific focus on developing the concept of environmental mentoring as an innovative approach linking education, participation, wellbeing and civic engagement. The project is grounded in real needs identified through the Partner Needs Assessment Questionnaire and follow-up partner consultations. These findings highlighted a lack of practical methodologies, mentoring tools and participatory approaches that would enable youth workers to effectively connect environmental topics with their daily work with young people. At the same time, the project responds to current challenges faced by youth workers – including growing climate anxiety among young people, digital overstimulation, low levels of participation and the need to strengthen critical thinking in the context of media influence. Therefore, the project develops competences not only in environmental education, but also in working with emotions, values and motivation of young people to take action. The project aims to: develop professional and practical competences of youth workers in environmental and climate education through experiential, participatory and project-based learning methods implemented within thematic training modules of the mobility, strengthen their ability to use mentoring approaches when accompanying young people in topics such as sustainability, responsible consumption and active citizenship, with mentoring projects being developed progressively throughout the mobility, increase the capacity of youth workers to engage Generation Z and Alpha, particularly in communication, participation and digital environments, including the use of digital tools, AI, gamification and interactive educational content, develop competences in media literacy, critical thinking, recognising greenwashing and addressing youth consumer behaviour, strengthen youth workers’ competences in addressing climate emotions, supporting wellbeing and facilitating safe and inclusive spaces, developed through methodological training blocks and facilitation practice, enhance their ability to activate young people towards participation, volunteering and community initiatives using participatory and storytelling-based tools, support the transfer of acquired competences into practice through the development of mentoring projects and implementation plans to be carried out in participants’ home organisations, produce a joint methodological output – an Environmental Mentoring Toolkit for Youth Workers, based on the project results and designed for open use in the international youth work context. The project does not aim only to share knowledge, but primarily to strengthen the quality of youth work at organisational level. Through competence development, creation of implementation projects and methodological outputs, the project supports the introduction of innovative approaches into practice and fosters long-term engagement of young people in sustainability and social responsibility.
