The Nature in Us project aims to strengthen the quality, sustainability, and impact of youth work by equipping youth workers with practical tools to support mental health and wellbeing in everyday practice. Young people across Europe are increasingly affected by stress, anxiety, emotional overload, and disengagement, which directly influences their participation, learning capacity, and personal development. Youth workers are often the first point of contact, yet many lack accessible and preventive methods to address these challenges while also caring for their own wellbeing. From a youth work practice perspective, the project aims to build youth workers’ competences in mental health awareness, self-care, facilitation, and the creation of safe and inclusive learning spaces. The objectives lead to training youth workers in nature-based, body-oriented, and mindfulness approaches that support stress regulation, emotional awareness, and resilience, and that can be easily adapted to different youth work contexts. The project also aims to strengthen youth workers’ ability to integrate sustainability and nature connection into youth work practice through eco-friendly, low-impact methods that require minimal resources. By focusing on experiential learning and reflection, participants develop confidence to apply these tools in real settings with young people. A further objective is to empower youth workers as multipliers, enabling them to transfer the acquired methods through pilot action and local workshops, and to contribute to the co-creation and use of the Forest Wellness toolkit. By supporting both youth workers’ wellbeing and their professional practice, Nature in Us contributes to more resilient youth work, higher quality support for young people, and long-term positive impact at local and European level.
