WELL-Connect aims to support young people with fewer opportunities by combining an inclusive DiscoverEU travel experience with learning activities focused on mental wellbeing, peer support and personal development. From a youth work practice perspective, the project responds to the increasing mental health challenges faced by young people, such as stress, anxiety, burnout, social isolation, and digital overload, which often prevent them from participating fully in mobility and learning opportunities. The main objective of the project is to enable young people with fewer opportunities to take part in DiscoverEU on an equal footing with their peers, while providing the emotional, social, and practical support they need to benefit from the experience. Through non-formal education methods, the project aims to equip participants with basic mental health first aid skills, helping them understand mental wellbeing, recognise early signs of stress or emotional distress, and support peers in a responsible and respectful way. WELL-Connect also aims to promote healthy coping strategies and digital wellbeing by helping young people reflect on their relationship with technology and develop a better balance between online and offline life. Nature-based wellbeing activities and reflection sessions support learning through experience and contribute to participants’ overall wellbeing. From the perspective of youth work practice, the project strengthens participation and empowerment. Young people will be actively involved in shaping activities during their travel, choosing learning moments, and sharing responsibilities, which increases ownership and motivation. By the end of the project, participants are expected to be more confident, resilient and prepared to take part in future learning, mobility and community activities. At the same time, our organisation strengthens its capacity to deliver inclusive, wellbeing-focused mobility projects, offering a tested model that combines DiscoverEU travel with emotional support, peer learning and non-formal education for disadvantaged youth.Through the WELL-Connect project, we aim to strengthen inclusive, wellbeing-focused youth work practices by using supported DiscoverEU travel as a non-formal learning tool for young people with fewer opportunities. From a youth work perspective, the project responds to observed gaps in access to mobility, mental wellbeing support and participation in European opportunities among disadvantaged youth. From our daily youth work practice, we observe that many young people with fewer opportunities are interested in travelling and learning abroad, but do not participate due to financial barriers, low self-confidence, lack of support, fear of travelling alone and mental wellbeing challenges. At the same time, youth work often lacks concrete, tested models that combine mobility with emotional support, peer learning and wellbeing. This project aims to address these gaps by offering a safe, structured and supportive mobility experience, while strengthening youth workers’ capacity to work inclusively in mobility contexts. The main objectives of the project are to: To enable young people with fewer opportunities to participate in DiscoverEU on an equal footing with their peers through tailored preparation, mentoring and continuous support during travel. To strengthen participants’ mental wellbeing, emotional resilience and peer-support skills by integrating mental health awareness and wellbeing practices into the DiscoverEU experience. To increase young people’s confidence, independence and sense of European belonging through learning by travelling, intercultural exchange and shared group experiences. To promote healthier digital habits and digital well-being by encouraging participants to review their relationship with technology and establish a better online-offline balance while traveling.
